American education
New to this edition Keeping American Education current, I have updated and added new tables and new chapter sections. Below is a list of these changes. The most important event since the last edition is issuance by the National Governors Association of the Common Core Standards. These standards are discussed in Chapter 1 and Chapter 9. 1. Chapter 1: Added two new sections "Common Core Standards: Protected or Prepared- Childhood?" and "Impact of Educational Goals: Common Core Standards and Literacy" 2. Chapter 2: Included text from No Child Left Behind on Sex Education 3. Chapter 2: Included new sex education requirements for New York City Schools 4. Chapter 3: Updated statistical tables 5. Chapter 4: Added new section "Child Poverty" 6. Chapter 6: Added and updated statistical tables 7. Chapter 7: Added new section "Global Responses to Education of Linguis¬ tic and Cultural Minorities" 8. Chapter 8: Added new section "Online and Distance Learning" and statisti¬ cal table on charter schools 9. Chapter 9: Added new section "Common Core State Standards" 10. Chapter 10: Added new section "Assault on Teachers Unions' Collective Bargaining Rights"
