The comparison of role play and think pair share technique toward speaking ability at the students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Metro academic year 2014/2015

Speaking is an interactive process of instructing meaning that involves producing,
receiving, and processing information. The main problem is the student just can
be mastery the material less than 75%. Many techniques presented as a solution in
speaking ability in descriptive text are Role Play and Think Pair Share
Techniques. The problem formulations in this research are; I) Is there any
different result of students speaking ability in descriptive text between using Role
Play and Think Pair Share techniques? 2) Which one is more effective between
using Role Play and Think Pair Share techniques toward students speaking ability
in descriptive text? The objective of this research are: 1) To know whether is there
any di?erence results of students speaking ability of descriptive text between
using Role Play and Think Pair Share techniques. 2) To know which one is more
effective between using Role Play and Think Pair Share techniques.
In this research the researcher uses quantitative research. The design is true
experimental design. The researcher conducted her research at the student of SMP
Muharmnadiyah l Metro. The population in this research was 415 students. It was
consist of 15 classes and average each class consist of 26. The researcher used
strati?ed random sampling as technique sampling in taking the sample, the sample
of this research is VIII B as an experimental class and VIII E as a control class.
To analyze the data, the researcher used tm formula. The researcher got the result
of tum is 3,00 and lltable is 2,00 (on criterion l) and 2,66 (on criterion 2). It means
that thit > ttahle. And the criterion of ttgst is IL, accepted if tbit > l-table, So, there is any
difference result of students speaking ability in descriptive text using Role Play
and Think Pair Share Techniques. Role Play technique is more effective than
Think Pair Share Technique toward students speaking ability in descriptive text at
the student of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Metro in Academic Year of 2014/2015. By
comparing of students speaking ability in descriptive text by Role Play and Think
Pair Share Techniques in the result of research, the researcher found that the
students speaking ability in descriptive text which treated by Role Play technique
showed the signi?cant result those who are treated by Think Pair Share teclmique.
It means that Role Play technique is effective to develop students speaking ability
in descriptive text at the student in SMP Muhammadiyah l Metro.
