Developing word search booklet for descriptive text for the eighth grade of junior high school

The purpose of developing word search booklet as a instructional media is to
draw students interest, arouse their enthusiasm, increase vocabulary and help the
students to write descriptive text well. In this study, the researcher uses research
and development as a design which consists of six steps , namely: need anaysis,
developing preliminary form of product, expert review, one to one, small group
and ?eld test. The research was conducted at the eighth grade of SMP N 2 Metro
and SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Metro. The researcher took 2 students from every
school for one to one step,-~ 5 students ?-om every school for small group step and
25 students from every school for ?eld test step that taken by simple random
sampling. A?er analyzing the data by using qualitative descriptive technique from
interview, expert review, and students questionnaire the ?nding shows that : ?rst,
most of aspects validation got average of experts score is 4, it means that, those
aspects are valid and can be tried to the students without any additional revision.
But there were several aspects which obtain average score 3, it means that the
aspects need to be revised. The media could be tested to the students after some
aspects in the media were revised. Second, the result of questiormaire in one to
one step shown that the readability conducted in SMP N 02 Metro is 75% and the
implemenability 80%. Whereas the readability tested in SMP Muhammadiyah 01
Metro is 78% and the implementability 79%. Third, the result of questionnaine in
small group shown that the readability tested in SMP N 2 Metro is 75% and the
implementability 77% . Whereas the readability tested in SMP Muhammadiyah
01 Metro is 78% and the implementability 81%. In the ?eld test, the result of
questionnaire shown that the readability got in SMP N 02 Metro is 79% and the
implementability 81% . Whereas the readability found in SMP Muhammadiyah
01 Metro is 76% and the implementability 77%. The ?ndings above showed good.
Therefore, the research can conclude that word search booklet is applicable and
can be used as an instructional media to teach descriptive text in state or private
Junior High School at the eighth grade.
