Vocabulary is very important for student. Students improve their formal vocab when teacher provides on how to organize their idea for writting. They need practice in organizing their idea around problem and solution, causes and result, similarities and differences. There are two problems in this research. The first is ; Can picture by holistic approach in group works increase the students vocabulary mastery the second grade of SMP N 2 Metro ?, and the second is How does the process of instruction using picture with holistic approach take place? The object in this research are to find out whether pictures by holistic approach in group work can increase students' vocabulary mastery, to describe instruction process using pictures by holistic approach
In this research, the researcher uses pictures by holistic approach in group work to increase the students' vocabulary mastery. The total numbers of the subject are 28 students. In order to get the data of the research, the researcher takes one class.
The result of the research shows that there is increase of the students' vocabulary mastery. In this research the researcher uses Classroom Action Research (CAR). The researcher is done in two cycles. Based on the discussion and the result of implementation of increasing vocabulary mastery through pictures by holistic approach in group work for the second grade of SMP N 2 Metro in academic year 2013/2014. It can be seen from the increasing of their result of post test during cycle 1 until cycle 2. On the last cycle, it has been got the score 92 as the highest score. The total score of the post test in the cycle 2 was 1572 with the average 56. There was 85,5 % students that got sucess in vocabulary mastery. It can be concluded that pictures by holistic approach in group work can increase students' vocabulary mastery. The students must be made active, enjoy, and happy in using learning process.
